Choose the option which best suits your interests and fitness
We provide flexible holidays; take an Easier Walk one day and switch to a Harder Walk the next, or choose to explore the Lake District independently
Easier Walks:
6 to 9 miles on valley, fell and lakeside paths.
Up to 1,200ft of ascent in a day.
Highlights include:
A good network of lakeside and valley paths means that the full beauty of the Lake District can be enjoyed without ascending the high fells
Walks follow the delightful lakeside paths that surround Derwent Water, Buttermere and Crummock Water
From the wooded lower reaches of Borrowdale to the charming villages of Rosthwaite and Seatoller, or to the mysterious Castlerigg stone circle
Medium Walks:
7˝ to 12˝ miles on good, but sometimes rocky paths to lower summits and moorland fells.
Up to 2,225ft of ascent in a day.
Highlights include:
By venturing onto the lower fells you can enjoy stunning bird’s eye views over the lakes and valleys below
The ever-popular summit of Cat Bells, with its views over Derwent Water
From Buttermere ascend onto the shapely mountain of Haystacks, or along the panoramic terrace path from Walla Crag to Ashness Bridge
Harder Walks:
8˝ to 14˝ miles using steep and rough paths to mountain summits.
Up to 3,400ft of ascent in a day.

For the keen mountain walker there are numerous exhilarating high-level traverses and summits to be ascended
Grisedale Pike, Skiddaw, Great Gable, Scafell Pike and Helvellyn via Striding Edge are just some of the famous Lake District peaks which can be scaled on a holiday full of panoramic views and huge rewards
Local transport
On some days the walks start and finish at our Country House, Derwent Bank. On other days you’ll be transported to other parts of the Lake District. The cost of all transport to and from the walks is included in the price of your holiday. |

| Flights |
The nearest airports are at Manchester or Newcastle.
Manchester Airport has its own station with direct trains to Penrith. Journey time is around 2 hours.
Newcastle Airport is nearer, but requires a more complicated journey to Derwent Bank. First take the Metro to Newcastle Central station, then a train to Penrith (1 change at Carlisle). Journey time 2˝-3˝ hours, depending on the connection. |
