Easier Walks
5 to 8 miles through a variety of forest, coastal and volcanic landscapes.
Up to 1,200ft of ascent in a day.
From Puerto de la Cruz we can walk through flamboyant flora in the nearby Orotava Valley and explore two contrasting volcanic landscapes: Las Arena Negras with its volcanic black sand and fragrant pine trees, and Las Cañadas’ gigantic crater in the shadow of Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain.
Harder Walks
7 to 11 miles sometimes crossing rocky ground with exposed sections.
Up to 2,600ft of ascent in a day.
We walk through the unforgettable landscape of Las Cañadas and include an ascent to the summit of Guajara (2,712 metres). We can also walk amidst the spectacular mountains of the Anaga Peninsula, head to the top of the Montaňa de la Rosas, and enjoy longer routes in the lush Orotava Valley.
On some days the walks start and finish at the hotel. On other days we’ll use the hired transport to explore the surrounding area. The cost of transport to and from the walk is payable locally.
Each week there is a free day where no guided walks are offered. This is an ideal opportunity to relax around the hotel, walk independently, or visit local places of interest.
Puerto de la Cruz
Originally a fishing village, Puerto de la Cruz is on the island’s northern coast. However, tourism and general economic development have enriched the town and it is now a very prosperous part of Spain. Despite this, fishing is still an important activity in the town and fishing boats can be seen in the port.
There is a good range of facilities including banks, shops, a supermarket, cafés and bars. There are also numerous outdoor shops and souvenir shops.
Leaders will be happy to recommend options if you would like to walk independently.
Puerto de la Cruz: enjoy the mature sophistication of Puerto de la Cruz’s historic streets and pavement cafés and a visit to the nearby botanical gardens.
La Orotava
Nestling in the lush Orotava Valley, La Orotavea was home to many of the island’s wealthiest and noblest families who settled here after the Spanish conquest. The town is blessed with an abundance of impressive mansions, churches and monasteries, the best of which are the Gothic Iglesia de la Concepción and the Baroque Iglesia de San Agustín.
Floral perfection is provided by the perfectly manicured beds of the formal Victoria Gardens with their mausoleum, and by the contrasting chaos of the lushly tropical botanical gardens. |
