Easier Walks:
4 to 7 miles on stony inland and coastal paths. Up to 800ft of ascent in a day.
Malta’s rich history is enjoyed on sightseeing visits to the fine Renaissance capital of Valetta, the ancient labyrinthine city of Mdina and the stunning domed church at Mosta. These complement a programme of attractive coastal walks from Mellieha to Paradise Bay and along the cliffs or to the traditional fishing harbour at Marsaxlokk.
Harder Walks:
7 to 9˝ miles sometimes rocky paths. Up to 1,600ft of ascent in a day.
These longer walks allow a full exploration of Malta’s inland and coastal scenery. Highlights include walks along the breathtaking Dingli Cliffs to the Blue Grotto and the undulating coastline from Mellieha to Golden Bay. We’ll also have plenty of opportunities to visit the key historical sights at Valetta and Mdina.
On some days the walks start and finish at the hotel. On other days we’ll use the hired transport to explore the surrounding area. The cost of transport to and from the walk is payable locally.
Each week there is a free day where no guided walks are offered. This is an ideal opportunity to relax around the hotel, walk independently, or visit local places of interest.
The landscape of the island is one of low hills with terraced green and brown fields. The coastline, although only 85 miles in circumference, is extremely varied, with cliffs, harbours, bays, creeks, sandy beaches and rocky coves. There are many interesting remains of Malta's ancient heritage including Neolithic temples, 4th century catacombs, Roman ruins and churches built by the Knights of St John.
Our base on Malta is the village of Mellieha, situated on the hilltop above Mellieha Bay. It covers two sides of the valley, the newer part of the village is to the east and the older residential part is to the west.
As the village is situated on the through route to the Gozo ferry, bus services to the capital Valletta are frequent. There are several bars and cafes on the main street and a variety of small shops. The Post Office and banks can also be found here.
The coach transfer to the Hotel takes approx 45 mins. |
