Easier Walks:
On Gozo there are many superb coastal walks to all corners of the island. We’ll visit the picturesque fishing village of Xlendi on the southern coast and at the western end of the island we can walk through a patchwork of terraced fields to the intriguing Inland Sea and the huge Azure Window sea arch.
4 to 7 miles on stony inland and coastal paths. Up to 800ft of ascent in a day.
Harder Walks:
Discover Gozo’s secluded coves and rocky headlands on walks along the island’s coastal path, virtually all of which is included during the week. The dramatic wind-sculpted cliffs of the north coast are a particular highlight. We can also soak up the panoramic views across the whole island from the citadel in Victoria.
7 to 9˝ miles sometimes rocky paths. Up to 1,600ft of ascent in a day.
On some days the walks start and finish at the hotel. On other days we’ll use the hired transport to explore the surrounding area. The cost of transport to and from the walk is payable locally.
Each week there is a free day when no guided walks are offered. This is an ideal opportunity to relax around the hotel, walk independently, or visit local places of interest.
Arriving in Gozo from Malta, your first close up view of Mgarr will be fishing boats and ferries in the harbour backed by flat-roofed houses on the hillside. Dominating the scene are the Churches of Our Lady of Lourdes, on the cliffs above the village, and neighboring Ghajnsielem.
Shops & Facilities: Mgarr is a tiny settlement. There is a supermarket 200m from the hotel and an ATM in the new ferry terminal. There is a local bar near the hotel.
Comino: Named after the cumin seed that once flourished in the Maltese islands, Comino is noted for its tranquility and isolation. It has a permanent population of only four residents. One priest and one policeman commute from the nearby island of Gozo, to render their services to the local population and summertime visitors. Today, Comino is a bird sanctuary and nature reserve and can be reached by boat from Mgarr.
